After moving back to the States from Germany, Manuel and I both struggled with staying healthy.
We were no longer walking everywhere, fast food was at every corner and with all the hustle and bustle of moving we quickly gained weight. I knew that I needed to do something active but I had been struggling with back pain and I couldn’t find the motivation.
We joined a local gym together (which was a spur of the moment purchase) and in three months I think we went a combined 5 times. Which wasn’t doing us any good. I had a hard time with a gym because I just don’t really know what to do when I am there, which leads me to just walking on the treadmill.
Since the gym didn’t work out, I was on the hunt to find something that did.
There was a Pure Barre that opened really close to our house, right about the time we moved here. A couple of years ago, I had done a few classes back when visiting my family in Nebraska and I remember really enjoying it. But… that was when I was in the best shape of my life. I wasn’t sure if now I would be able to make it through a class (at least not without embarrassing myself).
However, after seeing the pounds continue to pile up, I decided to give Pure Barre a try.
I am now 30 days into Pure Barre and I just have one regret – I wish I would have started sooner!
If you aren’t sure what Pure Barre is… Pure Barre is a collection of 45-50 minute total body workouts. At the core of our technique we use a thoughtful series of low impact, isometric movements that are designed to produce results. You’ll use the ballet Barre and other light equipment as you move through class, focusing on different areas of your body. Your muscles will shake. You’ll get stronger with each class. And ultimately, you’ll rise above who you were yesterday. Precise. Proud. Balanced. Passionate.
My worries about not being able to make it through a class weren’t true. I attempt all of the moves, and the instructors are really great at giving small modifications to things that I am not strong enough (yet!) to do.
And I can already see a huge difference from my first class to now, with how much I can do. I can feel my body getting stronger and that makes me so happy.
In addition to it helping me get healthier physically, it has become a part of my daily routine that is just for me. I can go to class, be in a super supportive environment, and just focus on doing something good for my body. My productivity has increased and my stress levels have decreased – all added benefits that I love.
I tried to go to 4 classes per week, and eventually I would love to get that up to 5-6.
In 30 days, I attended 17 classes- which is something that really makes me proud!
If you are ready to see if Pure Barre really works, things are about to get personal. Below are my before and after measurements within the 30 days.
Before:
Waist: 39″
Butt: 46.5″
Right Thigh: 28.5″
Left Arm: 15″
Chest: 41″
After:
Waist: 38″
Butt: 45″
Right Thigh: 27″
Left Arm: 15″
Chest: 39″
That’s a total of 6″ lost (from just the areas that I had measured) in just 30 days. I was pretty excited about that!
During that time, my diet didn’t change much. My diet is something I want to try and better focus on, along with going to 4-5 classes a week. I can’t wait to see where I am at when I make it to 60 and 90 days!
If you are considering trying Pure Barre yourself, I would love to have you join me at the Ankeny, IA location! Your first class is free! It has been one of the best decisions I have made for my health in a long time!
