Let’s be honest, these last few months in the midst of a global pandemic have been a bit crazy. Many people are quarantined, unable to see family and friends, learning to work from home and trying to homeschool their children. With all of this change, it can be hard to find a sense of “normal”.
I want to try and help you get through this hard time with a few tips and tricks that can make your life seem less crazy and more normal.
Get dressed daily
As someone who has worked from home for over 3 years, I have learned some tips along the way that can be applied to quarantine. The most helpful one that I have used is to get dressed daily.
This doesn’t mean that you need to get up, put a full face of makeup on, and wear high heels all day. It just means that when you do get up, change out of your pajamas. Even if this means just switching into leggings and a t-shirt.
It will help you be more productive and separate the nights from the days – something really important when you aren’t leaving your home like usual.
Keep parts of your routine that you can
While everything around you may seem different, you can still probably keep a few practices from your “normal” routine. Did you used to get up at 6am, shower and then work out, before getting ready? Do that. If you used to go to bed at 10pm because you had to get up early to leave for work, you can still do this.
For me, it’s all about starting my day off right and keeping my morning routine the same. I always get up, let the dogs outside, make a cup of Cameron’s Coffee and then enjoy breakfast before getting ready and starting work. Right now, we are loving the 100% Columbian and the Toasted Southern Pecan Decaf!
During the quarantine, I am still doing all of these things, and a huge perk is that Manuel and I are able to do this together. He isn’t rushing off to work, we are able to sit and enjoy a great breakfast paired with a great cup of Cameron’s coffee. It has been a really special time that we have been treasuring together before Baby F comes along.
Plus, we have been using our actual coffee pot since we are having a couple of cups of coffee and I have loved getting to brew coffee again (instead of using our Keurig like we normally do). We have even used our french press a few times which was something fun and different.
If you’re working from home and find yourself needing a replacement to the coffee you’d typically brew at work, or grab at a coffee shop on your way in, you obviously know my favorite is Cameron’s. They understand just how important that first cup of coffee is each morning, and continue to have all of their blends available on their website.

Don’t feel like you need to do anything extra during this time
It may seem like everyone on social media is being super productive and getting “all the things” done during this time. That doesn’t mean that you have to do the same. Don’t feel like you need to organize like Marie Kondo, deep clean everything or start a new DIY project. It is totally fine if you don’t do any of that! You can just take each day as it comes.
Set aside a designated place in your home for work
If you are working from home, make sure to set aside a specific spot in your home to work from. While working from bed can seem tempting, it will quickly get old and feel like you never leave your bed. This spot doesn’t have to be an office – I typically sit at our kitchen table.
Having a designated space also helps your brain realize that you aren’t relaxing, you are working. This will help you stay focused and productive.
Give yourself grace
Overall, it is so important to give yourself grace during these wild times. Keep things from your previous routine to help find “normal” in a global pandemic. Allow yourself time to sit back, relax with a cup of coffee, and know that we will all get through this – together!
