If you are in the process of an all-important house move then you may already know how stressful it can be. Moving to a new place can be so exciting but also has the potential to be one of the most stressful events in an adult’s life. I have moved a lot in my life, both domestically and internationally, and wanted to share the three things that could impact your move. That way you can prepare for them and hopefully ensure a smooth move in the process!
Delayed Dates
One of the first things to go wrong is one of the more common ones. If you think you have your dates set in stone, be ready to change them. Occasionally, you will have to reschedule the actual move date. This could be down to a number of things, such as moving dates not matching up on a rental. It could also be due to the people buying your home not being able to sell their own home just yet. Or even something happening with the closing dates, if you are buying a home. To prepare for this, make sure that you are able to remain a bit flexible – if you hire a moving company, make sure you can move dates if needed.
Damaged Belongings
Whether you decide to move everything yourself or hire a moving company, there is a chance that your belongings could get damaged during the move. If you do the move yourself you will better know that everything has been handled with care and precision. Even then your items or furniture could still get broken along the way so making sure that your insurance is up to date is a good idea. And if you want to avoid any of this happening when you use moving companies, ensure you use a recommended and highly experienced one such as cross country moving.

No Utilities
Finally, one thing you must remember to do before you move is arrange for all your utilities to be switched over to your new home. A high percentage of new homeowners completely forget to arrange dates for electricity or internet switch-on and are left in the dark, quite literally. When you have a move-in date set then be sure to call around and organize these for when you move in. And make sure you do so in advance because occasionally it can take a long time to happen. During one of our moves in Germany, it took us over 6 weeks to get internet service!
I hope you found this article helpful and that it gave you some reassurance and peace of mind that yes, things can go wrong but there is always a solution to ensure a smooth move. And you get to live in a brand new place so embrace this exciting time!
