When I started searching for our living room decor, I knew I wanted to add in a lot of personal touches. Photos, places we have traveled, memorabilia, etc. I love adding things that have meaning because it makes it that much more special.
One of my favorite parts of the room is the Des Moines map that we hung. We had the same one for Seeg, Germany (where we currently live) hanging in our bedroom in Des Moines. I also love that I was able to add i n so many plants. In the past few years I have really loved having live plants around (as long as I don’t kill them!)
The rug is also a big part of the room. It is so soft and cozy but I love that it isn’t getting matted like our last plush rug did. This one seems to hold up super well to traffic and the dark color hides any stains – #momlife.
We also needed to make space for my desk since this was really the only place in the house that we had room for it. The desk was Manuel’s childhood desk that we painted white and the handles black. I love how it turned out and that we were able to utilize a piece of furniture that holds many memories for him.
Manuel also requested that we have a book shelf because he had SO MANY books that we needed somewhere to put a few of them. This bookshelf from IKEA fits perfectly and I love how it turned out!
We also had a shelf that I got to place an antique clock that I purchased in Nebraska with my Mom and Sister, a painting Manuel and I did of the Des Moines skyline, vintage German books that I found while in Nebraska, newborn pictures of Leonie, a baseball from Biltmore that Manuel and I visited on my birthday, and family photos. Each of these make me so happy when I pass by them each day!
Overall, I am so happy with how our living room decor turned out. It is such a cozy and welcoming space that I love being in everyday!
