When you are planning to move house you have several options for moving your things. Some people hire movers, others book containers to self-pack for their move. Then there is the option of having a trailer on the back of your car, packed with your things that you drag to your new property with you.
Regardless of how you pack your truck, boxes and pieces of furniture need to be anchored and correctly stored away so that there are no issues. If you choose to have a trailer, you might want a Brumleve tarp lining it to prevent any issues with damage. It’s like a big game of Tetris when you pack a trailer, and while you can hire a mover to do it for you, you don’t have to go down this route. Here are some of the tips that you need to pack your self-move trailer yourself.
Make sure that the weight works.
You need to put your things in a trailer and while it will all weigh the same in the end, you have to think about the distribution of that weight. You want it to be even so that you can make it easier to load and unload, and you should consider how the trailer will be controlled during transit.
Put the big items in first.
When it comes to loading your trailer, you want the bigger items done first so that you can secure them to the walls and keep it stable. This way, you don’t have to worry about things falling over and damaging other items of your household. Disassemble as many things as possible and wrap mattresses and soft items in plastic so that you can avoid anything being damaged or getting dirty. There is much less of a risk of things falling when they have the right framework.
Put sofas on their sides.
It’s a good idea to ensure that your sofas and armchairs are all put on their sides so that you can limit the amount of space they take up in the trailer. Roll up your rugs and make a point of wrapping everything in heavy plastic wrap. You should do this with your upholstery, too!
Always put the lightest things in last.
From your blankets and lightest boxes to the cushions and pillows, put these things in last so that you can avoid things being squashed. With the heavier things in the trailer first, you can keep valuable space saved! You can add light things on top of other things as well, and that will help to fill gaps up to the ceiling.
Use moving straps.
You should ensure that you have straps to hold your bigger pieces of furniture so that nothing falls. Strap the items as you load them and make sure that your appliances aren’t going to be damaged in transit.
Label everything.
You want to ensure that your most important items are kept separately from everything else so label them. If you have a ‘go box’ of things you’ll need to access once you move, you can then label it in that way so that you can find it right away when you get to the new place.
